Google Meet’s video background is a great way to replace cluttered environments with preset images or apply blur effects to video calls before or during a meeting. This feature has now been improved with a new update, which creates the illusion that you are actually in the selected background.

With the introduction of immersive backgrounds on the web, the image backgrounds of video conferencing services are now more consistent with the weather in your location. You can choose from any different types of animated backgrounds, including cafes and apartment interiors. You can also apply various iterations to the background of your choice, such as snowy or rainy weather and day or night time settings.

In addition, Google Meet has added new light and color filters, as well as more styled backgrounds to make your video source look more realistic. Previously, no matter what background you used, you could still see the actual lighting in the room. Thanks to the new update, the lighting in your video source will now be more representative of your chosen environment.

As usual, you can use the Effects panel to add these new backgrounds and filters before or during the call. However, it is currently limited to the web version of Meet, and there is no news about when it will be available on Android.
